CUT by Wolfgang Puck is just…. (Sorry, I am lost for words)

CUT restaurant in Singapore is the third location for master chef and restaurateur Wolfgang Puck’s critically acclaimed, award-winning Beverly Hills steakhouse of the same name in the Beverly Wilshire, a Four Seasons Hotel. Widely acknowledged as one of the most popular restaurants in the United States, CUT has raised the bar within the fine dining industry and the Richard Meier-designed LA location has garnered high praise from prestigious publications including the New York Times, Los Angeles Times (Three Stars), Wall Street Journal and Wine Spectator and was named one of the top three steakhouses in America by Bon Appetit Magazine.

I was at Cut by Wolfgang Puck for a dinner recently and all I can say is that its worth every cent that you spent in that restaurant.

CUT's Entrance

CUT's Main Dining Room

The restaurant was busy when we arrived for dinner. We were escorted into a fairly large private room at the back…seats probably 40 packed. But that evening, we were about 30 I think. The decor is elegant and classy… dark with lighting accents. And walls upon walls of fine wine.

Before we get to order, the very handsome, suave, sexy and insightful server went with us a tour of the meat selection. There are so many to choose from, depending on what is your preference. Choices, choices, choices.

Can you see the marbling of the meat? orgasmic!!!

So, now for the REAL meat.

For starters, I had a super yummy Maine Lobster, American Blue Crab And Shrimp “Louis,” Spicy Tomato-Horseradish .

The texture of the whole dish is surprising very light, refreshing and tasty at the same time. Although, there are too much parsley in the mix though… I like it!!

I also nibbled away some of the Tuna Tatare with avocado from my boss… Super yummy…

The tatare taste very fresh and again tasty tasty tasty. I never had a tatare before so i was very surprised by the texture of it.

And now, for the mains.

I have decided for an American Wagyu / Angus “Kobe Style” Beef From Snake River Farms, Idaho. Woohooo! It was apparently not the so popular one but the whole sound of it is just…. exciting, isnt it?

TADA! Yes, you order meat, they will serve you meat. ONLY.

I know it looks weird like that. but trust me, the moment you put a chuck of that in your mouth, it will just melt in your mouth. The steak was so tender, juicy and yummy yummy yummy. I had to stop making my sexy orgasmic face everytime i has a bite.

Yes, of course we ordered sides to eat with our steak. I had a stir-fried mushroom.

My friend also had the Baby Chicken Cooked On The Rotisserie, Black Truffle, Natural Jus….

Well, not really a baby chicken i would say…

And, we almost had a decadent moment cause some of us decided to have adult grape juice aka wine. We ask for recommandation and they gave us this one.

Ok, this bottle of wine cost SGD40,000.00. Yes, thats a lot of 0’s in the price. We were told that the wine maker only made 500 bottles a year.

 Napa Valley wine. hmmmmnn……..

Nah, we didnt had the wine. its too expensive (you think) and we were told that thats not the best wine they have. its all marketing and hype and thats why they cost so much.

We had an Aussie wine instead. still as good and only 1/15 of the price.

And for desserts, i had a  Dark Valrhona Chocolate Soufflé. The whole dessert thingy was such an experience for me, i actually took a video of it.

Just watch how they prepare my Dark Valrhona Chocolate Soufflé!

I am not going to reveal how much was spend for dinner last night but i guess you can make it out from the menu below how much we need to fork out.

BUT IT WAS ALL WORTH IT!!!

So, if you have extra cash, and feel like having some meat, you should definitely go to CUT. Make sure you make appointment ok.

Kkul Yuja Cha for you?

I’ve been sleep deprived for months and the amount of stress at work doesn’t help at all. Everytime I start sneezing, I just make myself a cup of hot honey citron tea. “citron tea” is known in Korea as “yu-ja-cha” (Hangul: 유자차). “유자” is citron while “차” or “cha” means “tea”. Honey is “꿀” or “kkul”. 꿀유자차 “kkul yuja cha” is honey citron tea.

I got to know about this tea when i was in a Korean Restaurant this year and when i realized i was going to Korea this year, i knew i had to buy them a-plenty when i was there!

유자차 replaces my coffee habit whenever I’m feeling under the weather. A 600 gram bottles costs 6,000 won depending on the brand. I’ve learned from experience that brands don’t really matter.

I use one tablespoon of the tea and fill the cup with hot water. Don’t use boiling water. Just add more tea if desired.

Yummy!

xoxo

7 Things that are Secretly Making You Gain Weight!

I came across this wonderful? and interesting article from a health magazine and i thought this would be quite useful to you, and me (especially) since all of us are on the mission to at least lose some weight and look hotter!

Who know that the choices you make in your everyday life might be secretly causing you to gain weight.

Here’s how to spot seven diet saboteurs!

1. Fancy coffee-shop beverages

Your daily treat from the corner coffee shop may be adding a significant amount of calories to your diet. For example, a Grande Strawberries and Crème Frappuccino with whole milk and whipped cream at Starbucks is 370 calories and 15 g of fat. Instead, choose a regular coffee. Alone, it has no calories, but even with cream and sugar it’s a much better choice: You’ll add 24 calories and 3 g of fat per tablespoon of cream, and 16 calories per teaspoon of sugar. Make this swap once a week and you’ll cut 17,160 calories a year, which adds up to almost 5 pounds. – Oh shit, my Hazelnut Soy Latte habits needs to stop!

2. Eating on the run

Most of us have caught ourselves walking and eating, or stuffing down a meal to get to our next commitment on time. “Eating on the run often leads to eating too quickly for your hunger and satisfaction signals to keep up,” says Mary Bamford, registered dietitian. What’s too fast? According to Bamford it means taking less than 20 minutes to eat a meal.

Instead, sit down (eating in the car while driving doesn’t count) and slow down. “If you eat in a hurry and rely on your hunger signals to know when you’ve had enough, you have to overeat to feel satisfied,” she says. “And then 30 to 60 minutes later, if you are paying attention, you may realize you are stuffed,” she adds. So stop walking and munching, and make time to savour your meals.

3. Overindulging on weekends

Researchers have found that people don’t realize they eat markedly more on weekends, particularly on Saturdays, when they tend to consume more fat. Those extra calories can add up quickly.

To combat overindulging on Saturday and Sunday, pay attention to portion size, weigh yourself daily (or on Fridays and Mondays only) and watch your alcohol intake, which provides empty calories and lowers your food inhibitions.

My Huge-Ass burger! Is way too much!

4. Portions that are too large

It’s a simple fact: Eat less and you’ll lose weight. There’s good evidence that over the past 50 years, restaurant portions have “super-sized,” and our waistlines have grown along with them. We’ve become accustomed to eating larger servings to the detriment of our health.

To combat this habit, use a smaller plate for your meals. Less space on the plate means automatic portion control. And when ordering or buying food, choose the smallest size of any high-calorie items.

5. Crash diets

Dieting makes food an enemy, not a source of sustenance and well-being. So-called yo-yo dietinglosing weight, putting it back on, losing it again and so on—is bad for your health. If you suddenly reduce your food intake, you body, because it is designed for survival, will slow down your metabolic rate in order to store energy more efficiently. This is why people on a diet crave snacks like chocolate, which gives a quick boost to their energy levels, and why weight loss slows down dramatically after the first couple of weeks.

To reach and maintain a reasonable body weight, you need a balanced diet full of nutrients to prevent disease and to ensure optimal energy and psychological well-being.

6. Skipping meals

“Skipping meals can have a negative impact on your metabolism,” says Toronto nutritionist Aviva Allen—your body might start storing extra fat in anticipation of more missed meals. Instead of eating less, consume small, nutrient-dense snacks and meals more often – every three hours is ideal – and try not to eat after seven o’clock at night, when your metabolism is at its slowest.

Eating often also makes it easier to stay on track beacause denying yourself food isn’t a sustainable practice. “The biggest mistake is to think of your diet as a temporary event to reach a specific weight-loss goal,” says Allen. “If you plan to return to your old habits once you’ve reached your goal, the weight will quickly return.”

7. Boring workouts

No matter how good the fitness plan, sticking with the exact same routine day after day is hard—and discouraging. In his first book, 5-Factor Fitness, Hollywood trainer Harley Pastnernak recommends a different workout for every day of the week, each focusing on a different body part. Whether you vary the number of reps you do or make a switch from cardio to resistance training, it’s important to vary your routine enough so you don’t get bored. “At least one thing should be different daily,” Pasternak suggests.

Vitamin Water for you?

If you are someone who travels frequently to major cities around the world like New York, Sydney and Shanghai, you probably might have encountered Glacéau’s Vitaminwater®.

So what is Vitaminwater?

Vitaminwater is an energy drink that is infused with nutrients like antioxidants and magnesium. Taste-wise, after sampling a few of their flavours, they mostly taste like plain water with a very light tint of fruit.

The drink is popular with many famous celebrities like Paris Hilton, Miley Cyrus, Liv Taylor and other trendsetters. Apparently, it’s a drink that connotes certain glam factors and lifestyle statements. That’s also how the drink is marketed – exclusivity and the trendy element.

Well, Vitaminwater is finally here in Singapore. We are now part of the “in” crowd, joining other major cities where Vitaminwater is available.

Six flavours are available in Singapore (in single serve 500ml bottles) at all leading supermarkets –power-c (dragonfruit), essential (orange-orange), ignite (tropical citrus), multi-v (lemonade), restore (fruit punch) and xxx (acai-blueberry-pomegranate).

Sounds yummy eh?

And then, i stumbled into a very interesting article by John Robbins, the author of The New Good Life, Diet For A New America, scrutinizing the Vitaminwater.

I m not sure how true the facts are but now it makes me want to try and sample the drink. Good marketing strategy though! 😉

The Dark Side of Vitaminwater

Now here’s something you wouldn’t expect. Coca-Cola is being sued by a non-profit public interest group, on the grounds that the company’s vitaminwater products make unwarranted health claims. No surprise there. But how do you think the company is defending itself?

In a staggering feat of twisted logic, lawyers for Coca-Cola are defending the lawsuit by asserting that “no consumer could reasonably be misled into thinking vitaminwater was a healthy beverage.”

Does this mean that you’d have to be an unreasonable person to think that a product named “vitaminwater,” a product that has been heavily and aggressively marketed as a healthy beverage, actually had health benefits?

Or does it mean that it’s okay for a corporation to lie about its products, as long as they can then turn around and claim that no one actually believes their lies?

In fact, the product is basically sugar-water, to which about a penny’s worth of synthetic vitamins have been added. And the amount of sugar is not trivial. A bottle of vitaminwater contains 33 grams of sugar, making it more akin to a soft drink than to a healthy beverage.

Is any harm being done by this marketing ploy? After all, some might say consumers are at least getting some vitamins, and there isn’t as much sugar in vitaminwater as there is in regular Coke.

True. But about 35 percent of Americans are now considered medically obese. Two-thirds of Americans are overweight. Health experts tend to disagree about almost everything, but they all concur that added sugars play a key role in the obesity epidemic, a problem that now leads to more medical costs than smoking.

How many people with weight problems have consumed products like vitaminwater in the mistaken belief that the product was nutritionally positive and carried no caloric consequences? How many have thought that consuming vitaminwater was a smart choice from a weight-loss perspective? The very name “vitaminwater” suggests that the product is simply water with added nutrients, disguising the fact that it’s actually full of added sugar.

The truth is that when it comes to weight loss, what you drink may be even more important than what you eat. Americans now get nearly 25 percent of their calories from liquids. In 2009, researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health published a report in theAmerican Journal of Clinical Nutrition, finding that the quickest and most reliable way to lose weight is to cut down on liquid calorie consumption. And the best way to do that is to reduce or eliminate beverages that contain added sugar.

Meanwhile, Coca-Cola has invested billions of dollars in its vitaminwater line, paying basketball stars, including Kobe Bryant and Lebron James, to appear in ads that emphatically state that these products are a healthy way for consumers to hydrate. When Lebron James held his much ballyhooed TV special to announce his decision to join the Miami Heat, many corporations paid millions in an attempt to capitalize on the event. But it was vitaminwater that had the most prominent role throughout the show.

The lawsuit, brought by the Center for Science in the Public Interest, alleges that vitaminwater labels and advertising are filled with “deceptive and unsubstantiated claims.” In his recent 55-page ruling, Federal Judge John Gleeson (U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York), wrote, “At oral arguments, defendants (Coca-Cola) suggested that no consumer could reasonably be misled into thinking vitamin water was a healthy beverage.” Noting that the soft drink giant wasn’t claiming the lawsuit was wrong on factual grounds, the judge wrote that, “Accordingly, I must accept the factual allegations in the complaint as true.”

I still can’t get over the bizarre audacity of Coke’s legal case. Forced to defend themselves in court, they are acknowledging that vitaminwater isn’t a healthy product. But they are arguing that advertising it as such isn’t false advertising, because no could possibly believe such a ridiculous claim.

I guess that’s why they spend hundreds of millions of dollars advertising the product, saying it will keep you “healthy as a horse,” and will bring about a “healthy state of physical and mental well-being.”

Why do we allow companies like Coca-Cola to tell us that drinking a bottle of sugar water with a few added water-soluble vitamins is a legitimate way to meet our nutritional needs?

Here’s what I suggest: If you’re looking for a healthy and far less expensive way to hydrate, try drinking water. If you want to flavor the water you drink, try adding the juice of a lemon and a small amount of honey or maple syrup to a quart of water. Another alternative is to mix one part lemonade or fruit juice to three or four parts water. Or drink green tea, hot or chilled, adding lemon and a small amount of sweetener if you like. If you want to jazz it up, try one-half fruit juice, one-half carbonated water.

If your tap water tastes bad or you suspect it might contain lead or other contaminants, get a water filter that fits under the sink or attaches to the tap.

And it’s probably not the best idea to rely on a soft drink company for your vitamins and other essential nutrients. A plant-strong diet with lots of vegetables and fruits will provide you with what you need far more reliably, far more consistently — and far more honestly.
