LE NOIR- The Intimate Side of Cirque!

LE NOIR- The Intimate Side of Cirque

From a sold out season in Tokyo, a thrilling cirque style experience is now showing at Marina Bay Sands.

And i cant wait to watch it this week!!!!!

For the first time in Singapore, and direct from a sellout season in Tokyo comes LE NOIR, an extraordinary evening of intimate cirque style entertainment starring some of the most incredible acrobatic acts on earth and will open to a star studded affair in Singapore for the very first time tonight, 12 March 2013. Singapore is invited to enter the captivating world of LE NOIR – a custom-produced cirque show like no other.  Designed and built specifically for the MasterCard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands, audiences will be immersed in an extraordinary visual feast using metaphors of white, red and black to describe the diverse range of our personalities.

Carefully engineered with the deliberate intention of making the audience a part of the entertainment, the set designers from Kingsmen in Singapore, have been perfecting the blueprints for months now. With a carefully crafted stage set coupled with the talent of Creative Producer Simon Painter, LE NOIR explores emotions through colours as the cast transforms from beautiful and pure white, then explore the passion of red and culminating with the darkness of Le Noir.

Twenty of the very best cirque performers from all four corners of the globe, many of them formerly from Cirque du Soleil, are the centre piece of this production and will enthrall crowds in this spell-binding theatrical journey spanning the three key colour themes. LE NOIR accentuates the darker side of these colours using not only the acts on stage but of every audience member as well. The content is surreal, beautiful, seductive and at time hilariously risqué. The production is fast paced, extremely funny and above all entertaining.

Mr. Milan Rokic, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of BASE Entertainment Asia said, “Discovering Le Noir in Tokyo was like a gift. This beautiful show combines a visual spectacle via its unique set and lighting design, and performance dynamics via the amazing production. These artists blew my mind and I am sure they will do the same to our Singapore audiences.”

With months of planning, careful engineering and tireless attention to detail, The Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands will be fully transformed to seat audiences around a custom-built circular stage of about 2.5 meters in diameter giving a spectacular 360 degree view of the performance as it commences.  Audiences will be ‘enclosed’ within a canopy of curtains designed out of LED lights.  For the first time ever, seating at the Sands Theatre will be limited to a little over 1100 seats to create a unique and intimate experience.

Producer, Simon Painter said, “The original concept behind Le Noir was to take the very best of the best cirque performers in the world and rather than create a production in a huge auditorium or arena, produce an intimate style show where the audience is literally inches from the action on stage. Part of the concept is to make the audience experience the show rather than just watch it and a number of sophisticated special effects are employed through the production.”

Led by Creative Producer Simon Painter and Executive Producer Tim Lawson, the creative team behind LE NOIR has launched many large scale productions including Le Grand Cirque Adrenaline, which was to date the biggest and most ambitious thrill circus ever attempted in the Sydney Opera House. The show sold over 35,000 tickets in 10 days and opened to rave reviews.

With incredible displays of balance, contortion, stamina and aerial artistry, the skills exhibited by the cast of Le Noir is a show that you don’t want to miss. What is your darker side?  Tickets are priced from SGD$35 and are now on sale.

What do we know? The State of America’s Visual IQ

What do we know? The State of America’s Visual IQ

Once upon a time, the role of the teacher in the classroom conjured up images and ideas of blackboards, rulers, chalk, and pencils. But now, technology is becoming more and more integrated into modern school systems—not just as an added bonus, but as a necessity to how students learn and how teachers teach. While at one point in time, adopting technology into the classroom may have been perceived as stressful and forced for teachers and students alike, as it stands now, students aren’t just excited about using technology, teachers are excited and highly capable of utilizing its presence in the classroom. From smartboards to class computers to e-readers and e-textbooks, each new technology presents new modes of both teaching and learning opportunities. Now, every day teachers with tech access are finding new ways to embrace technology and incorporate it into the classroom. As a result, teachers are more efficient than ever, and students are capable of learning faster and more efficiently. In fact, a majority of students say that technology has helped them to achieve their academic goals, while a majority of teachers say they would like to use even more technology in the classroom. The following infographic looks into the tech-teaching phenomenon, and why teachers love it so much.

N.E.mation7- Team “All These Ships” reveals all! And they need your help! #NE7C01

All These Ships

Yes yes, this is one of my darling teams that made it to the Top 10 Finalist for N.E.mation 7.

Introducing Team ALL THESE SHIPS.

From the left, Sheryl, Jade, Sarah & Nell from Methodist Girls School.

These whimsical, eccentric 15 year olds are a very intellectual creative bunch. They love to tease each other while doing their work and they have a lot of insider jokes. Yes, sometimes when i speak to them, i get lost in their long, philosophical answers.

But let me get you the juicy scoops on each of them!!! (I am damn good reporter you know)

Lets start with:

NELL. (the most left in the picture)

  • So apparently, Nell is the most “artistic” one in the team
  • Hailing from The Philippines, Nell has been in studying in Singapore 4 years ago
  • She loves cookies, and bantering
  • And she can speak German!
  • And she is a year older then her peers (dont look like it right?)
  • She is the most calmest in the group but when provoked, she is the greatest screamer in the world

Sheryl. (2nd from the left)

  • Despite wearing the ACS pullover, she is still from Methodist Girls School
  • She is the most “normal” one in the group, more like the mediator of the group
  • She plays the guitar (very well)
  • She also loves writing and apparently, she has written a few novels that needs to be published (if any publisher is interested)
  • She also loves the Vampire Diaries series
  • Other then that, she is the Netball-Shooter Queen (I was told she can score in any position in the court)

Jade. (the tall smiling one)

  • So, if you think Jade is another “normal” one, you got it all wrong
  • Jade plays the ukulele (which she called Caelum)
  • She is the “weird” one in the group (i dont know why)
  • She is 50% Hong Kong-er and 50% Singaporean
  • Other the the ukulele, she also plays the piano!
  • She loves to bake and likes videogames and Super Junior (yes, KPOP rules her life)
  • She has a thing for LUSH (the handmade cosmetics) because she loves the intense fragrance of the product

Finally, Sarah. (The most right)

  • Right, so Sarah is the “emotional” one in the team
  • Having to live in Taiwan for 5 years, she still cant speak mandarin as well as her peers
  • Sarah loves video games and comics and she is always home-stuck (cause she loves to read)
  • Sarah also plays the piano really well and her bickering partner in crime is Nell
  • Did you know that Sarah almost cried at every movie that she ever watched?

And there you go, the #foreverEccentric #kookygirls of the All These Ships.

I did asked them what their group name meant to them but apparently, the name came out because of an insider jokes that i have yet to uncover.

In anycase, #AllTheseShips needs you help! They need your likes on Facebook. And how can you do that?

Just go to https://www.facebook.com/nemation and go to “All These Ships” and like them! Or just click HERE to like them!

The more likes they have, the higher their chances of winning!

So, please help me rally votes for these girls, and i promise to dig out their juicy scoops about them for you, and also their progress on their animation.

Oasia Hotel Singapore, the only oasis in the city!

Oasia is Far East Hospitality’s newest hotel brand. It was launched in August 2011 and is the flagship property for Far East Hospitality in Singapore. It is situated near the Novena MRT, as well as the popular lifestyle shopping malls of Novena Square Velocity and Square 2. Oasia offers the convenience and accessibility that is catered to the  requirements and demands of the traveller.

I was invited to the Oasia Hotel recently and am impressed with it. Its external facade did not prepare me for the delightful surprise and warmth that welcomed me as I entered the premises.

Firstly, be prepared to walk in awe as you enter the lobby though, the interior decor which consist of high ceilings, large wooden seating area and a breath-taking stone wall, will only compel you to stay for awhile before checking into your room. The design is so chic and earthy that you feel so calm and relax.

There are four Club Suites, 100 Club rooms, 224 Deluxe rooms and 88 Superior rooms. Oasia Club guests can enjoy exclusive access to the hotel’s 24-hour club lounge, The Living Room. Here, daily breakfast is served alongside complimentary cocktails and canapés from 6-8pm and giest can stay connected to the outside world via the complimentary WIFI service. Oasia Club giests can also swim and unwind in one of the highest hotel pools in Singapore surrounded by greenery and panoramic skyline views on the 22nd floor.

Ok, photo show-off time.

Spot me?

Blissful eh?

For reservations, check out their website at www.oasiahotel.com.

Oh, they made a very cool video of Oasia and the bloggers when we were there. Go try to spot me, again!

CUT by Wolfgang Puck is just…. (Sorry, I am lost for words)

CUT restaurant in Singapore is the third location for master chef and restaurateur Wolfgang Puck’s critically acclaimed, award-winning Beverly Hills steakhouse of the same name in the Beverly Wilshire, a Four Seasons Hotel. Widely acknowledged as one of the most popular restaurants in the United States, CUT has raised the bar within the fine dining industry and the Richard Meier-designed LA location has garnered high praise from prestigious publications including the New York Times, Los Angeles Times (Three Stars), Wall Street Journal and Wine Spectator and was named one of the top three steakhouses in America by Bon Appetit Magazine.

I was at Cut by Wolfgang Puck for a dinner recently and all I can say is that its worth every cent that you spent in that restaurant.

CUT's Entrance

CUT's Main Dining Room

The restaurant was busy when we arrived for dinner. We were escorted into a fairly large private room at the back…seats probably 40 packed. But that evening, we were about 30 I think. The decor is elegant and classy… dark with lighting accents. And walls upon walls of fine wine.

Before we get to order, the very handsome, suave, sexy and insightful server went with us a tour of the meat selection. There are so many to choose from, depending on what is your preference. Choices, choices, choices.

Can you see the marbling of the meat? orgasmic!!!

So, now for the REAL meat.

For starters, I had a super yummy Maine Lobster, American Blue Crab And Shrimp “Louis,” Spicy Tomato-Horseradish .

The texture of the whole dish is surprising very light, refreshing and tasty at the same time. Although, there are too much parsley in the mix though… I like it!!

I also nibbled away some of the Tuna Tatare with avocado from my boss… Super yummy…

The tatare taste very fresh and again tasty tasty tasty. I never had a tatare before so i was very surprised by the texture of it.

And now, for the mains.

I have decided for an American Wagyu / Angus “Kobe Style” Beef From Snake River Farms, Idaho. Woohooo! It was apparently not the so popular one but the whole sound of it is just…. exciting, isnt it?

TADA! Yes, you order meat, they will serve you meat. ONLY.

I know it looks weird like that. but trust me, the moment you put a chuck of that in your mouth, it will just melt in your mouth. The steak was so tender, juicy and yummy yummy yummy. I had to stop making my sexy orgasmic face everytime i has a bite.

Yes, of course we ordered sides to eat with our steak. I had a stir-fried mushroom.

My friend also had the Baby Chicken Cooked On The Rotisserie, Black Truffle, Natural Jus….

Well, not really a baby chicken i would say…

And, we almost had a decadent moment cause some of us decided to have adult grape juice aka wine. We ask for recommandation and they gave us this one.

Ok, this bottle of wine cost SGD40,000.00. Yes, thats a lot of 0’s in the price. We were told that the wine maker only made 500 bottles a year.

 Napa Valley wine. hmmmmnn……..

Nah, we didnt had the wine. its too expensive (you think) and we were told that thats not the best wine they have. its all marketing and hype and thats why they cost so much.

We had an Aussie wine instead. still as good and only 1/15 of the price.

And for desserts, i had a  Dark Valrhona Chocolate Soufflé. The whole dessert thingy was such an experience for me, i actually took a video of it.

Just watch how they prepare my Dark Valrhona Chocolate Soufflé!

I am not going to reveal how much was spend for dinner last night but i guess you can make it out from the menu below how much we need to fork out.

So, if you have extra cash, and feel like having some meat, you should definitely go to CUT. Make sure you make appointment ok.

Newest member of ENVY portfolio defies conventional notebook design

HP recently revealed the HP ENVY Spectre, a premium consumer Ultrabook PC that commands attention with its unparalleled use of glass and stunning performance.

Tough yet beautiful, the HP ENVY Spectre uses lightweight, scratch-resistant glass on the lid, display, palmrest and HP ImagePad – an industry first. With new advances in display engineering and chassis design to reduce the bezel thickness, the notebook fits a full 14-inch diagonal screen inside a 13.3-inch diagonal body and allows users to get more enjoyment from their entertainment.

“Sleek, midnight black glass on the outside and stark contrast silver glass on the inside make Spectre extraordinary, and defies conventional notebook design,” said Robin Seow, Vice President, Marketing, for HP Personal Systems Group in Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ). “We chose the Spectre name to evoke mystery, and we packed it with the best in entertainment technology to satisfy those who expect the unexpected.”

Designed like no other PC

The HP Spectre’s high-definition (HD)HP Radiance Display offers some of the industry’s highest resolution and richest color for better brightness and wider viewing angles than traditional notebook displays.

An HP Radiance Backlit keyboard provides outstanding illumination using individual LEDs dedicated to each keycap. The keyboard works with an advanced proximity sensor to intelligently sense a user’s presence, lighting up when a user approaches and dimming down after he or she leaves.

Equipped with a matching audio-grade speaker mesh and Beats Audio™, an exclusive, high-performance technology developed by HP and Beats™ by Dr. Dre, the HP Spectre boasts an aluminum analog volume dial that acts as a visual design cue and works seamlessly with Beats Audio™ Manager to precisely adjust audio levels.

Built-in HP Wireless Audio turns any home into a concert hall, allowing users to stream uncompressed audio to up to four external devices or directly to any KleerNet™-compatible device.

The Spectre is also one of the first notebooks to feature HP Touch to Share, a near-field communications (NFC) technology, which allows users to share data between select NFC-enabled smart phones and the notebook.

Uncompromising performance

The HP Spectre is blazingly fast, stunningly sleek and boasts up to 9.5 hours of battery life. Powered by the latest Intel® Core™processors, the 20-mm-thin HP Spectre weighs less than 1.8-kilos and includes up to 256 gigabytes (GB) of storage in an ultrafast mSata solid state drive.

Intel Rapid Start Technology also allows for quick boot and resumes times.

The HP Spectre also comes loaded with HP exclusives, such as HP CoolSense technology, which automatically adjusts performance and internal fan settings for a noticeably cooler PC. In addition, the HP ImagePad provides precise multifinger touch navigation and the HP TrueVision HD Webcam provides brighter, cleaner HD images.

Eliminating the need for external dongles, the HP Spectre features a full array of advanced input and output options, including Gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.0, HDMI and Mini DisplayPort.

Additionally, the HP Spectre offers a performance-tuned software image, full versions of Adobe Photoshop®Elements 10 and Adobe Premiere Elements 10, two years of preinstalled Norton™ Internet Security and a concierge phone line for technical support that is dedicated exclusively to HP ENVY users.

Awarded for excellence

Alongside the recently introduced HP ENVY 15, the HP Spectre joins the award-winning ENVY portfolio as the winner of CNET’s Best of CES 2012 notebook.

The HP Spectre is also the prestigious winner of the iF Product Design Award 2012, which ranks among the world’s most important design awards and represents the seal of approval for good design. A top-class specialist jury has bestowed the award on the HP Spectre for excellence across several criteria, including design quality, functionality, ergonomics and the degree in innovation.

Canon PowerShot G1 X: Born out of Legends

Canon recently  announces the launch of the PowerShot G1 X, a new prosumer compact camera for photography enthusiasts seeking the best in imaging. The new flagship camera in the PowerShot series inherits technologies from Canon’s EOS range of DSLRs, such as the new 1.5-inch, 14.3-megapixel CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 5 image processor contributing to Canon’s high-sensitivity (HS system) for stunning image quality.  Along with advanced optics, a maximum ISO speed of 12,800, and Intelligent Image Stabiliser (IS), the PowerShot G1 X is the perfect instrument for those who want the power of an EOS camera in a smaller package.

“Most camera users want their camera to produce outstanding images, without the need for post-processing”, said Andrew Koh, Senior Director and General Manager of Consumer Imaging and Information Products Group, CanonSingapore. “With a larger image sensor, the latest DIGIC 5 image processor and intuitive controls, the PowerShot G1 X promises to be a powerful device that has once again raised the standard for prosumer compact cameras.”

New 1.5-inch high sensitivity CMOS sensor

The PowerShot G1 X features a new 14.3-megapixel CMOS sensor measuring 18.7mm x 14mm, close to the APS-C class sensors (22.2mm x 14.8mm) used in the Canon EOS DSLRs. The 1.5-inch type large format sensor is specifically designed for the PowerShot G1 X and is 6.3 times larger than the sensor used in the PowerShot G12, delivering the highest image quality in a compact camera yet. The larger sensor is also able to achieve the attractive depth-of-field background blur that DSLRs are often sought after for (also known as the “bokeh” effect). The 14.3 megapixels allow for easy output of large-sized prints, and permits images to be cropped freely without excessively losing resolution.

Upping the ante for low light capabilities

Paired with this powerful sensor is Canon’s latest DIGIC 5 image processor. With Canon’s HS system, the PowerShot G1 X sets new standards for low-light photography with a maximum ISO speed of 12,800. This allows for faster shutter speeds and hence sharper images in low-light environments or fast-moving subjects. The enhanced processing power in DIGIC 5 greatly reduces image noise to preserve image quality at even the highest of ISO speeds.

Clear group photos

The 4x-optical zoom (28mm to 112mm) with a maximum aperture range of f/2.8-5.8 (adjustable up to f/16) and Canon’s Optical Image Stabiliser makes it effortless to capture different scenes such as sunrises and group photos. The 6-bladed circular aperture is perfectly paired with the image sensor to ensure smooth bokeh of background lights.

Further to the addition of EOS technologies is 14-bit RAW signal processing, which gives images a notably richer touch and smoother gradation. 14-bit RAW files offer a 4 times increase in RAW data to preserve more image data, and grant much wider flexibility when editing photos. The PowerShot G1 X also offers the option to record RAW and JPEG images simultaneously, for easier review of images in JPEG and access to RAW files for any detailed editing.

Fast moving actions captured by High Speed Burst HQ

The ability to handle large amounts of data by the DIGIC 5 processor allows the PowerShot G1 X to shoot up to 6 continuous frames in full resolution at a speed of 4.5 frames per second (fps), with its High Speed Burst HQ feature. This level of speed ensures that users are able to capture the perfect frame during dynamic, fast-moving action.

New lens with UA lens Technology

The new 28-112mm f/2.8-5.8 lens in the PowerShot G1 X utilizes the optical technology of Canon’s EF lenses, built to achieve professional levels of image sharpness and colour. Utilizing Ultra high refractive index Aspherical (UA) elements and precision glass moulding technology, the lens achieves both a compact size and tack-sharp clarity.

The New Intelligent IS

Created for the PowerShot G1 X is a new version of Intelligent IS which helps to ensure optimum image and Full HD movie clarity. This is done by determining focal distance and type of camera shake to reduce the blur images associated with the motion of a camera during exposure. With these calculations the camera automatically applies the most appropriate form of stabilisation, allowing the photographer to concentrate on capturing the moment.

Smart Auto 32 Scenes assesses and automatically recognises 32 types of shooting situations and automatically optimises camera settings for the best possible results, making it simpler and easier than ever for users to capture memories in full glory. Facial and motion tracking is included in Smart Auto to ensure that optimum focus is maintained on key subjects.

Full HD movie recording with HDMI Output

The new PowerShot G1 X records Full HD video (1080p) at 24 frames per second (fps) with stereo sound, via a dedicated movie recording start/stop button. Taking full advantage of the camera’s large CMOS sensor, high ISO capabilities, and full digital zoom at recording, users can experience high quality movies, even in low light conditions. The movies are easily viewable on a HDTV via the camera’s built-in HDMI terminal or downloadable to a computer via USB.

Viewing your picture as you like it

With a 3” Vari-angle LCD monitor at a high resolution of 922,000 dots, users can innovatively frame their shots, by flipping the monitor out and swiveling it at almost all angles for easy viewing, whether it is a high or low-angle shot. The PowerShot G1 X’s optical viewfinder also zooms in and out along with the lens, providing users with accurate points of reference to frame their shot.

Copyright Information

As with EOS cameras, the PowerShot G1 X Copyright Information feature allows the photographer’s name and copyright details to be registered in up to 63 characters of ASCII text. Copyright information can also be registered using the bundled ZoomBrowser EX.

Extensive accessories to explore full potential of the PowerShot G1 X

The Canon PowerShot G1 X offers compatibility with an array of EOS system accessories, allowing photographers to instantly explore and easily expand the potential of the camera. Users can either work with the newly-integrated manual pop-up flash, or attach external Speedlite flashguns via the hotshoe for more creative lighting.

Taking underwater shots or shooting under heavy rain can be a breeze with the optional WP-DC44 waterproof case which provides a sealing up to a depth of 40m while maintaining full access to all controls. An optional lens filter adapter, FA-DC58C, also enables photographers to use a range of filters, such as circular polarizer, to accentuate the sky and greenery in a scene. Portability is thus created for photographers and travelers who expect DSLR-like image quality in a compact camera.

The PowerShot G1 X maintains manual exposure controls as with previous G-series models, providing advanced users with full control over their images. It also features a retractable zoom lens for protection during storage and improved durability of the shutter unit by more than 2 times compared to the PowerShot G12. Frequently gripped areas are covered by hatch rubber to maintain a high-quality grip.

Price & Availability

The PowerShot G1 X will be available in early March at authorized Canon dealers at the recommended retail price of S$999.
